Lydian’s One-on-One Middle School Programs
Our Full-Time private middle school curriculum aims to build academic self-confidence and foster independence in preparation for high school. All classes take place virtually or in person. The schedule consists of elective offerings in conjunction with core courses selected from 5 primary domains: English/language arts, social studies, math, integrated science, and world languages.
Within this set of classes, students select the areas of concentration that interest them most, stretch themselves beyond their peers in areas of passion/interest, and shore up skills or gaps in their foundation to ensure gains in confidence and academic readiness in support of their articulation to high school. Students can enroll at either local campus: Burlingame or Menlo Park, CA.
Lydian’s One-on-One High School Programs
Our WASC-accredited Full-Time private high schools offer college preparatory, UC/CSU-approved (A-G) courses, with more than 40 NCAA-approved classes covering all subjects. Students on the path to college can choose from this robust list of courses to prepare for the rigors of post-secondary education and meet requirements for eligibility. The Menlo Park and Burlingame, CA campuses provide a robust offering of Advanced Placement (AP) courses governed by the College Board.
Students receive direct, one-on-one instruction with a teacher whose goal is to ensure their success, whether attending online or in-person. Our instructors optimize each student’s access to the course content based on their unique learning profile.

Lydian Academy Students Achieve More
We value the achievements of all of our students at Lydian Academy. Our diverse student body reflects our commitment to the individual needs of each learner. At Lydian, we recognize that every person has unique strengths and challenges that make them an essential part of our educational community. What types of students benefit most from a flexible one-on-one approach?
Athletes and Performing Artists
Young people who are exploring their talents in sports or performance arts need flexible schedules that can work around their practices, rehearsals, competitions, and performances. Rather than being penalized by rigid schedules and attendance requirements, Lydian students can attend classes that meet their schedule and engage either on campus or online in synchronized classes. Pursuing a passion for sports or performing is fully supported by our instructors, staff, scheduling, and access to all resources from remote locations.
Students with Attention Challenges
We welcome students who have or have been told they have, challenges with attention. Moving away from the distracting large classroom environment can allow students to focus on learning more effectively. Lydian Academy was built for students who have not thrived in a traditional school environment.
By learning about each student’s strengths and abilities, these natural gifts can be leveraged to achieve each student’s goals. Our private high schools and middle schools support different learning styles and understand how to engage students with different attention abilities.
Gifted Students (2e Students)
We welcome students who have or have been told they have, challenges with attention. Moving away from the distracting large classroom environment can allow students to focus on learning more effectively. Lydian Academy was built for students who have not thrived in a traditional school environment.

Students with Health Challenges
Students facing physical or mental health challenges often fall behind in a traditional classroom setting. Through no fault of their own, they may be unable to attend in-person classes on a regular basis, and even online coursework may not be possible at times. At Lydian, we support these students with flexibility, compassion, and an individualized curriculum and schedule that can keep them on track for college prep or other educational goals.
Health is the first priority for many of these young people, and they face downstream challenges as well. Many students do not want to answer questions from classmates about where they have been and why. Our students are not forced to choose between what is best for their health and what is best for their education. We enable and empower these individuals to achieve their goals and support their own well-being.
In particular, students with health obstacles value these flexible options:
● No fixed start or end dates for classes
● The ability to increase or decrease homework and course load to support recovery
● Hybrid coursework options to attend the same class either online or in person in Burlingame or Menlo Park, CA
● Accommodating scheduling around appointments, physical therapy, or counseling sessions
Students Who Travel or Learn at Home
For families that travel extensively, Lydian offers the unique opportunity to stay with the same instructors and school regardless of where they are when they attend high school or middle school classes online. Other students learn best in their home environment or find travel difficult. We provide comprehensive and accredited curriculums for homeschooling and remote learning students.
All Students Who Learn Differently
This category could really apply to any student who is not satisfied or finding success in another learning environment. We all learn differently and can benefit from an individualized program that highlights our strengths and bridges our weak spots.
Our staff is experienced with all types of learning challenges and brings evidence-based learning tools and compassionate understanding to every student. No child can be left behind when every learner receives the support and resources they need to achieve their best.
Flexible Academics for Full-Time Students
Lydian Academy’s one-on-one approach to academics allows students to use the educational formats that suit their needs and lifestyle. Students can enroll in Full-Time school programs in a combination of delivery methods, including:
● On-campus learning at either of our locations in Burlingame, CA, or Menlo Park, CA. On-campus learning fosters direct connections with coursework, peers, and instructors.

Student Services and Group Instruction at Lydian
All full-time private middle school and high school students have access to a comprehensive continuum of services including accommodations, academic advising, and college counseling. Students also have access to our speech-language and mental health partners collaborating with Lydian’s academic instructor if supplemental services are conducive to student success.
When applicable, students may qualify for a Lydian accommodation plan that is informed by outside 504s, IEPs, private psycho-educational evaluations, and collateral work with educational specialists, clinicians, and SLPs. Lydian works with families and students to determine an optimal educational program and flexible daily schedule that aligns with students’ learning needs, career/vocational interests, and post-secondary goals.
In between one-on-one classes, full-time students participate in our Essentials for Success (EFS) small-group class daily. EFS is intended to support students in developing their social-cognitive and executive functioning capacities, providing students with the tools and practice required to balance socialization with peers and independent work completed successfully. The class also affords opportunities to collaborate on projects with other students in advance of our annual Fall Academic Showcase.
In addition, EFS is the hub for our student clubs and activities on campus, our college and career advising sessions, and social-emotional learning instruction from an evidence-based SEL curriculum. These group opportunities are provided at both our Burlingame, CA and Menlo Park, CA campuses.
